Fourth of July 2019: What Is Open, Closed In Charlotte?

CHARLOTTE, NC — As families around the region celebrate Fourth of July with fireworks and cookouts, many services will take a holiday break. Patch has compiled a list of closings you can expect Thursday in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.

Most all Mecklenburg County offices will be closed Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day, although some facilities will remain open or have modified hours.

Expect the following government offices and businesses to be closed:

Charlotte

City of Charlotte offices — closed July 4 All libraries — closed Tuesday, July 4 Trash collection will operate on the normal schedule.

Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS)

On Thursday, July 4, all Charlotte Area Transit System bus routes, the LYNX Blue Line and the CityLYNX Gold Line Connector will operate on a Sunday schedule in observance of the Independence Day holiday. CATS Pass Sales & Information offices at the Charlotte Transportation Center and the CATS Call Center will be closed. The CATS Pass Sales & Information offices and CATS Call Center will resume their regular schedule on Friday, July 5. CATS and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation are offering a free shuttle for riders visiting Ramsey Creek Beach. The service will run on July 4, July 6 and July 7. The shuttle will leave from the Cornelius Park and Ride, and will run every 15 minutes from 9:30 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Customers can find schedule information by visiting ridetransit.org or by calling 704-366-RIDE (7433).

Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT)

Several road races, parades and holiday events will take place in Charlotte throughout the week. Road closure information can be found on the CDOT Street Use and Event Notice (SUN). The 51st Annual Hickory Grove Parade is introducing a new parade route in 2019. The parade will begin at Lawrence Orr Elementary School at 10 a.m. and proceed down Shamrock Drive, ending at the fields at the Aldersgate Community near Tipperary Place. Shamrock Drive from Hickory Grove Road to Tipperary Place, and North Sharon Amity Road from Hickory Grove Road to Kimmerly Glen Lane will be closed between the approximate hours of 9:30 a.m. and noon on July 4. CharMeck 311

CharMeck 311 offices will be closed July 4. CharMeck 311’s normal hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Outside regular business hours, callers can report water, sewer, stormwater and animal issues via an automated service that dispatches assistance. Many service requests can be made online 24/7. Please call 911 for any emergencies.

Solid Waste Services

The City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services will operate on a normal schedule during the Fourth of July holiday. Customers should prepare garbage, yard waste, bulky waste and recycling for their normal collection day. The week of July 4 is a green week for recycling collection. When grilling out, coals should be placed in a metal container to cool before bagging and disposing. Do not place hot coals in garbage bags or rollout carts. To ensure collection, do not park cars on the street or block rollout carts. Mecklenburg County Solid Waste administrative offices facilities and facilities will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2019. The exception is Compost Central at 140 Valleydale Road. It will be open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mecklenburg County Health Department — closed July 4

Mecklenburg County Library System — closed July 4

Park and Recreation — administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2019.

Recreation and Senior Centers — closed

Mecklenburg County Nature Centers — open regular hours.

Ray’s Splash Planet — open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center will open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cordelia Pool and Double Oaks Family Aquatic Center — open noon until 7 p.m.

Ramsey Creek Beach — open 10 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Beach shuttle will operate July 4-7 from Cornelius Park and Ride lot, 20300 Sefton Park Road.

Marion Diehl Pool — closed for renovations
